"Midnight is a strange time.
The night is continuous, yet it’s a brand new day.
It’s not the rebirth of a sunrise — yet there’s a new energy.

I am breaking through to the other side in both this mix and in my musical life. This mix continues many of my past sounds… and brings out some entirely new ones too."

01:00 - 02:00
Loren Baxter, San Francisco

"This mix is dedicated to staring out a plane window late at night, looking at stars as we all float quietly through space together on this miraculous planet.

I am a night owl. My most spiritual and reflective hours come when the world quiets down to rest. I love to go outside and lie flat on my back, staring up and appreciating that we are all marooned together on this tiny rock in a vast, glittering ocean."

02:00 - 03:00
Okori Puryear, San Francsico

"It's late, you're in the midst of friends and having one of those nights that you're gonna (try to) remember forever. Wherever you are, there is no roof and you can see the sky as the moon is setting and the sun is still yet to show its face. You don't want to leave and you don't want the night to end. Stay on your feet, stay close, and let the experience wash over you."

03:00 - 04:00
dot (Nada Rastad), Oakland

"The memory of 3:00 am often comes in bits and waves, the details of the night as remembered the next morning--hazy. As you struggle to piece the fragments together--the thing you might remember is the way it all felt--something you can hold on to."

04:00 - 05:00
Randall Sarafa, San Francisco

05:00 - 06:00
Ricardo Mestre, Lisbon

"It’s half past 4 when we leave the club. Broken bodies, orbiting spirits, we split between two cabs. The party must go on. Destination: your place. I hit play on the mixtape to the sound of whiskey hitting the rocks."

06:00 - 07:00
Alexandra Walters, Berlin

"For the record, this is my first mix! As a Bay Area native who is now living in Berlin, I struggled to arrange a meeting point between these two worlds. There's quite literally a wrench in the middle -- a bridge between the darker, ambient Berlin vibes and that happy, tribal SF groove. For me, 6-7 AM is a time to transition. And when it comes to music, that's most likely on the dance floor to greet a new day. For me, all the tracks feel suspenseful, like you are somewhere between one mood and the next."

07:00 - 08:00
drempt (Lauren Nguyen), Tokyo

"A quiet breakfast on the terrace with a view of Shinjuku in the distance, dreaming of winding Istanbul streets."

08:00 - 09:00
Grant Toeppen & Laura Polkus, San Francisco

"St. Funkalicious, patron saint of fancy footwork, commands you to hold your hands to heaven for a reading from the Book of Get Down.

You prepare your body and soul for the day ahead, readying yourself to do good works and spread the gospel of jive."

09:00 - 10:00
Matt Pakes, San Francisco

"Rainy Sunday mornings are for sleeping in late, cuddling under warm blankets, and sipping coffee by the window. They’re for indulgent brunches and curling up in your favorite old sweater with a great new book by a warm fire. This is the soundtrack for that kind of morning — An eclectic mix of slow chill-hop beats, jazzy interludes, trip-hop classics, and soulful grooves spanning 7 decades. Enjoy."

10:00 - 11:00
Vizard (Sam Simon & Basti Es)

"We are Vizard from Berlin and we are in San Francisco to work on music with Venetia. Next year in February we will hit the Road and play a Westcoast Tour. Back Home we play Livesets in and around Berlin. Never forget: Every time is Ghetto House Time."

11:00 - 12:00
Blake Zahn, Reno

"I’ve recently made a drastic career shift to improve my life and well-being, reduce stress, and create more time every day for activities and projects that are truly meaningful to me. 11:00 has become “me time”. This is when I have a midday break between paid gigs to follow through on my passion projects. My current projects include working on my music, DJing, meditation, mindfulness, and shamanic practices. 11:00 is a wonderful time either to sit back, reflect, and meditate on your life’s current trajectory, or to get to work and dive into your current project.

This mix comes from a place of being truly thankful for my life and newly found time to dedicate to worthwhile activities, promoting personal growth, and adding to the positivity in my life. When you listen to this mix, put yourself in a mindset of gratitude, celebration, joy, exultation, reflection, meditation, shamanic journeying, and of course, dancing!"

12:00 - 13:00
Charles Green, San Francisco

"When I wanted to clear my head on a weekend, I would take a walk. I would start at the Williamsburg Bridge, walk over to the lower east side, head over to the basketball courts on west 3rd, grab a snack on Macdougal, and then sit and watch the time pass in Washington square park. I would think about being at the center of it all, about the millions of people around me. It was isolating and inspiring and invigorating and scary. And I would think about leaving it all behind to move to California.

This is the music that reminds me of those days, feeling free and trapped and open and plugged in, mainlining the pulse of civilization on NYC streets."

13:00 - 14:00
Beau Gaerlan, San Francisco

"1 pm to 2 pm mix for a collaborative sound project run by my homegirl Kelsey. Each year, 24 people are assigned a time of day and tasked with creating a mix or playlist that corresponds to their designated hour. Together, we collectively create a full 24 hours of music designed to provide a soundtrack for an entire day—start to finish.

A departure from what I normally play when out and about at shows / undergrounds / events, this mix has a little bit of that hip hop, r&B, and jazz soul that first brought about my love of music. To me, 1 pm represents that post-lunch meeting work hour where you get to sit down and bang out some deliverables - but given the nature of my song preferences there's a little bit of love song in there too...so here's some chillhop to get you through the work day.

PS. After several false starts because I don't know how recording technology works, here it is. I didn't create a playlist prior to making the mix, I just played a bunch of songs from my usb. Toward the end of the mix I decided to throw in a track my roommate recorded of himself on some brass, and it threw off my flow a little. Can you tell which one is his?"

14:00 - 15:00
Dillon Petrillo, San Francisco

"Post lunch. Pre dinner. The energy that brought you to your feet is waning and the evening ahead of you is nothing more than an aspiration. Caught between moments of reflection and idle amusement this chunk of time is ripe for getting lost in waves of sunshine innocence and afternoon delight."

15:00 - 16:00
Asymmetry (Maryna Cher), San Francisco

"I suggest that you don’t think about what you should be doing during this hour; instead, i encourage you to just be.

One of the most bizarre premises of quantum theory, which has long fascinated philosophers and physicists alike, states that by the very act of watching, the observer affects the observed reality… Tests have shown that when under observation, electrons are being "forced" to behave like particles and not like waves.
As electrons change their behaviors when their existence is being observed and evaluated, so do we. Whenever we try to answer the existential question of “What am I doing?”, we are being taken out of just being and “forced” into doing/acting/behaving…

Each of us is a special kind of light. To learn what we truly are and to shine our brightest, we must spend some time (alone or not) just being our indescribable selves.
When we just are, we shine our true light. It radiates from within."

16:00 - 17:00
Soleil Sizmo, San Francisco

"As a kid, 4pm was an hour of freedom , the possibilities before dinner were endless. Now as an a worker, 4pm heralds the arrival of very different time. Too far from the pleasure of lunch, dinner is still a far hope. What to do? Is it too late for nap time? Probably. Ping! It’s a good time for a snack

A walk in the deepening sun helps soothe your mind but boredom is a powerful beast and the day is not yet done. You must call upon your imagination to defend you. Bathroom lights become the floods of a stage, brief words, spoken earlier, become a racy affair; unusual characters bring you wise advice and the frenzied high of inspiration leaves you drunk on the possibilities for the future while the video player stutters and you dreamily wish for the day to close.

For this mix, I recommend a zoot, cup of tea and a healthy dose of imagination. Also, you probably don’t want to play it at full blast. I'm still learning about levels and mastering. Protect your ears."

17:00 - 18:00
Chisme (Beto Juarez), Austin

"Happy Hour means pulling up a chair, enjoying a drink, and celebrating your hard work. For me, nothing signifies the arrival of happy hour more than some great Latin music. Drawing from South Texas, Mexico, Colombia, and elsewhere, I created a set that starts off welcoming your beer and gets you dancing by the end of the hour when that (or many more) beer is well into your system."

18:00 - 19:00
Albert Gentry, Brooklyn

"For your Friday commute home after work."

19:00 - 20:00
Connor Hayes, San Francisco

"I was so excited to be able to put together a mix for one of my favorite hours of the day -- "the golden hour."

I have had so many fun experiences playing and listening to music with friends as the sun goes down, the day ends and we slowly move into night.

This mix, to me, represents the kind of sunset where you start in your bathing suit and end in your jumpsuit. It begins with some psychedelic sounds, moves into some grooves and disco and ends with some soulful dance tracks. I hope you dig it."

20:00 - 21:00
Michael Holt, Los Angeles

"Let go of today//
Fuck alllllll your past loves//
The night is coming soon//
It’s time to carry on//"

21:00 - 22:00
Julie Allen, Brooklyn

"It's the time of the night when you've finally wined down from a busy day. It's the hour that you are able to chill before you decide whether to go out or stay in. This sound takes you either way."

22:00 - 23:00
Samuel & Aaron Lopez-Barrantes, Paris & New Orleans

"As the days get shorter and the nights grow longer, here's a sultry 10pm playlist to start the night out right. Not too mellow, not too loud, you'll be bobbing your head and swaying side to side with a glass of something on the rocks."

23:00 - 24:00
Nima Rastad, Los Angeles

"A vinyl mix to satisfy every corner. Inspired by the Brilliant Corners stage at Houghton Festival 2017."
